Federal Programs
Title I Schoolwide

Welcome to the Lewistown Public Schools Federal Programs web page. While schools may have funding from more than one federal program, the vast majority of federal funding for our School District comes in the form of Title I Part A Funding. As a district that has been approved as a Schoolwide Title I program, we work to meet the goals and objectives of that program by focusing our efforts across our district to educate all students.

The purpose of a Title I Schoolwide Program is: "to improve academic achievement throughout a high-poverty school (one in which at least 40% of the students are from low-income families) so that all students, but particularly the lowest achieving students, demonstrate proficiency related to the State's academic standards."

Schools such as ours are part of a strategy for implementing comprehensive school change.  Schoolwide Programs are allowed to use funds from Title I Part A, Title II and other federal education program funds and resources with regular and state resources.

The schoolwide process expects schools to participate in a comprehensive needs assessment.  Identified needs are to be used to develop goals and objectives to ensure that all students, particularly those who are low-achieving, demonstrate proficient and advanced levels of achievement on the state's academic achievement standards.

Additionally, parent involvement is expected to be very important in a schoolwide program. In fact, one of the components of a schoolwide program requires the school to employ strategies to increase parental involvement. Consistent with the purpose stated above, all parents in a schoolwide program school are eligible to participate in parent involvement activities.
