Dear Parents and Students Enrolled in Fall Semester of Driver Education,

A brief meeting will be held for parents and students on Thursday, August 31st from 5:15-6:00 p.m. in the Fergus High School Cafeteria.  This will be just prior to the FHS Open House.  The following important items will be presented and questions answered:

*Parents will complete the “Application for a Driver License for Minors” at this meeting.  You will need to bring a black or blue ink pen with you to complete the form.  You will also sign the application at that time to signify that you agree to your student pursuing their driver’s license as a minor.

Necessary Information and ID’s for the Student that you must bring to the meeting:

*Certified Birth Certificate or valid Passport

*Social Security Card

*Student’s eye color

*Student’s weight

*Student’s height

*Student’s normal hair color

*Bring a black or blue ink pen to fill out the form

*All students will have a Vision Screening with the School Nurse in class on August 30 and 31.

*We will be testing students soon for the Learner’s License in class.  This is the written test based on the State Drivers Manual that your student received in the classroom.  You will not need to go to the Driver Services Office for this written exam unless your student fails the test when it is given in class.  There is a possibility that it will be given a second time, if necessary, so that more students can obtain the Learner’s License.  This permit allows students to practice driving with a licensed parent or legal guardian, as well as our instructors.  Students should study the State manual thoroughly prior to this exam.  You will not pay in class for this exam.

*We will also discuss how the students must sign up for their behind-the-wheel driving lessons so that they get their six hours of driving, and twelve hours of observation of other students driving, completed in the proper time frame.

*We will provide hand-outs to parents and students.  These include more in-depth information about the Learner’s License, the various types of permits and licenses for the Graduated Driver’s License in Montana, as well as the log for keeping track of your student’s behind-the-wheel driving practice hours.

Sincerely,

Diane Oldenburg, Director of Driver Education
